The following regulations apply to all waters of the West Hawai’i shoreline out to the three-mile boundary of state waters.  The north boundary of this region is Upolu Point and the south boundary is Ka Lae (South Point).

• It is prohibited for anyone to take more than 5 Yellow Tang larger than 4.5 inches in total length (TL) or more than 5 Yellow Tang smaller than 2 inches (TL) per day or possess more than this amount at any time.
• “Take” means to fish for, catch, or harvest, or to attempt to fish for, catch, or harvest aquatic life.  The use of any gear, equipment, tool, or any means to fish for, catch, capture, or harvest aquatic life by any person who is in the water, or in a vessel on the water, or in the shoreline area shall be construed as taking.
• Manta rays are already protected by law everywhere in the state of Hawai’i.

As of Dec. 26, 2013, it is prohibited for ANY FISHER, FOR ANY REASON, to take any of the species listed below in any area of West Hawai’i.  For valid research purposes scientists may take specimens after first obtaining a special permit from the state of Hawai’i.
